| Everything PLUS the Kitchen Sink A Vermont Couple’s Dream Kitchen
When you take three years to build your dream house, you want everything to be perfect and exactly how you envisioned it to be. For the owners of this new kitchen, most of that time was well spent in the planning process with the end result being an awe-inspiring kitchen that is as functional as it is beautiful.
Starting with a folder and photos pulled from various magazines, the owners set out to create a kitchen that would fit their family and entertaining needs. “We had a great kitchen remodeling experience in our previous home and though this process would be just as easy,” said the lady of the house, “Little did we know that in just the few years since there would be so many choices available to us!” Since the home was a new build, and the floor plan quite open, they wanted to be very mindful of their choices so that the flow of the rooms remained congruous. Working with their builder and Bruce Simpson of Simpson Cabinetry, they settled on a design that is not only beautiful but takes full advantage of all the space. Even adding a signature Simpson Cabinetry drawer in the corner of the bottom cabinets.
Countertop and appliance selection was fairly painless for this couple. Simple upgrades to more energy efficient models in appliances and a new twist on the granite they loved in their previous home was all that was necessary. Additions such as cabinet facing on the refrigerator and a custom copper range hood add elegant architectural interest. “ One of the hardest decisions we had to make was whether to paint the cabinets in the bar area the same finish as the kitchen cabinets” said the owner. After much debate, a red was chosen for the bar cabinets while a buttery yellow envelops the panty creating two separate yet cohesive spaces with the open kitchen.
The best detail in this kitchen space is a unit along the baseboards where you can sweep debris to be disposed of through the central vacuum system. “With two dogs and two boys, this may very well be my favorite thing about this kitchen “ said the owner with a chuckle. In truth, the best detail about this kitchen is not any hard good, but the spectacular view of lake Champlain over the kitchen sink. Positioned like artwork, this view makes doing the dishes anything but a chore. Proving that with a little planning and vision, you really can have everything, PLUS the kitchen sink.
